The competiton was won by Marcus Taylor, who runs themusiciansguide.co.uk. His winning pitch: to talk about the need to simplify and unify music marketing across the myriad of intelligent online D2F tools available to musicians today. Hot on his heels were our three runners up: Will Clark (first in the above playlist), who argues that album apps like Lady Gaga’s Artpop or Bjork’s Biophilia could well be as disruptively positive for the industry as the music video was in the early 80s (Will’s submission image still won him a midem pass in our “disruptive creativity” photo competition, yay!); Alex White, founder of 2011 midemlab winner Next Big Sound, the music data specialists whose unique insight and in-depth analysis is changing the way we look at music right now; and Osia Katsidou, of Berlin-based agency TAIL, whose mission is promoting new musical talent online, which promising an “element of discovery” to boot.
