For Liz Miller, general manager of Big Beat Records (Atlantic Records’ dance-focused label, home to Skrillex, DJ Chuckie & more), “labels are a vehicle for credibility. They’re a brand you can be associated to, that puts you in a spotlight that it’s harder to achieve on your own.” What’s more, with a label like Big Beat, says Miller, “you have a team of (200) people who are all working towards the same goal: the furtherment of your career.”

Besides developing new talent, labels can also give established artists’ careers a considerable boost, affirms Miller: “(DJ) Chuckie was doing fine without us, but he decided it was time for some more intense A&R, more international presence and distribution, and more radio.”

Miller also said that whilst Big Beat is happy to work solely on the music/recording aspect of an artists career, the label prefers to develop 360° deals, working across live production, publishing and more.
