Midem is always such a vital barometer to the industry. With such a large tribal gathering, Midem acts as a temperature gauge. My experience of 2010 was extremely positive and encouraging. Discussions were more in the “doing” than in the “complaining”. I was honored to have participated in some of the new initiatives. My role as a Midem+ connector allowed for 9 straight hours of open discussion with a wide range of creatives. This activity facilitated the meeting of new friends and after so many years of accumulated connections, it was rewarding to share that knowledge and to learn from new ideas. We all need courage to believe in our ideas and seek ways forward in a new atmosphere. What I enjoyed a lot too, was the round-table discussion that took place in the Midem+ area. I’d like to see more of that. It was spirited and showed me that people are willing to be proactive and join the discussion rather than being spoken at all the time.
I also participated in the digital genius sessions with the young creatives from AWAL. It was encouraging to to see their sessions completely booked up and people walk away with actionable items and ongoing discussions regarding their next steps. I really enjoyed the new MidemNet Academy and the MidemNet Lab and commend the action of finding new ways to engage the Midem audience.
Every year, its a treat for me to reconnect with friends from all over the globe and to catch up on all the exciting things they are doing. My Midem 2010 – one of the best ever!!!
