According to Nielsen’s exclusive report for MIDEM, 57% of Internet users have watched music videos online in the last three months, a figure that exceeds by far the proportion of internet users who bought an mp3 over the same period (under 20% of people surveyed). This figure also exceeds the number of internet users who have downloaded one or more tracks ‘without paying’ – 48% ‐ with strong discrepancies depending on the country (and without any distinction between illegal downloading and works in the public domain).
It is therefore essential to use YouTube as a channel to broadcast your music. To that end, you need to optimise your content in order to be well positioned on YouTube. The better your video appears on YouTube, the better it will be ranked by Google.
