I’ve just arrived in Cannes and can barely wait to dive in and get started! Admittedly, I was hoping for a quick swim by the croisette, but they don’t make full body bikini’s yet… so that will have to wait for spring. Regardless, I’ll be keeping you company over the next few days, assisting James in his live show coverage and putting my 2 cents in where needed.
If you haven’t had a chance to look at the concert line-up for the evening, I suggest you take a few minutes to take a look at what we like to think is a spectacular line-up.
The headliner of the evening is Madness, the English ska band from Camden Town, London made famous with their hit “Our House” in the 80’s. Recently, they have made appearances at the Queens Diamond Jubilee and Buckingham Palace, not to mention the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games. In August 2012 Madness released “Death of a Rude Boy,” a teaser from their new album Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da. I’m looking forward to hearing what’s new with this iconic group. Check out their recent interview with James. 22.50-00.00 Magic Mirrors, Palais des Festivals
For those partial to the hippy movement of the late 60’s, don’t miss the exceptional voice of Asaf Avidan, labeled the “love child of Dylan and Joplin.” 21.40-22.20 Magic Mirrors, Palais des Festivals
And don’t miss one of the winners of the INDABA “Play midem 2013” competition, Yes Sir Boss, the first signature on Joss Stone’s Stoned Records label. 20.30-21.10 Magic Mirrors, Palais des Festivals
The rest of Cannes will be electric with beats and sounds from all sides of the world. The midem off festival will be sharing with you the hottest acts from all genres of the music industry. Here are my picks for the evening, but be sure to have a look at the midem website for the full concert programme.
DJ Danman, former DJ at world renowned wine and art bar, ‘Bacchus,’ in San Francisco, will share with us the world’s emerging artists at 100% Jamendo content. 23.00, B. PUB, 22 rue Jean Macé, Cannes.
Around the corner, Austrian Rock Punk sensation Stereoface will certainly be getting the crowd riled. This group is about to release their album “Face it,” a fantastic mix of psychedelic art rock to straight forward punk. 23.00-23.30, Morrison’s, 10 rue Teisseire, Cannes
Need a classical fix? Saturday night is focused on everything vocal, presenting the ‘Young Singers Project,’ in partnership with the well known Salzburg Festival. From 20.30 at the Classical Embassy, at the Majestic hotel.
Check back tomorrow for crowdsourced highlights of this evening, only on midemblog!
