Tonight, Cannes turns into the city that will not sleep as artists from South Africa and Cuba kick off this year’s Midem Artist Accelerator (MAA), Mide’ms exclusive competition that aims to cast the spotlight on tomorrow’s global superstars.

Now in its fourth year, the MAA offers opportunities for the finalists in the Midem international contest designed to speed up the careers of artists already established in their native countries but with masses of potential to make it on the international stage too.

So for tonight’s Midem By Night entertainment on the Sunrise Stage, head to the Midem Beach from 20.00, where you can catch T$hego, the dynamic US-born South African R‘n’B/hip hop star who has become one of the country’s hottest performers…

…also on show will be BigStar, another South African rapper ready to export his highly popular music to the rest of the world.

If there is any proof that the rise and rise of female hip-hop performers is an international phenomenon, you will see it during the performance of Cuba’s La Dame Blanche, for whom Midem is another step up the ladder to global fame.

Meanwhile, South African R’n’B star AKA will show everyone why he is the man in his chosen profession and why he is also known as 3rd World Boss.

Then to get a taste of why UK is home to many of the world’s best-selling sounds, head to the Sunrise Stage for the British Music Night, courtesy of Music is Great and BBC Music (also from 20.00). Start with Wildwood Kin (above), the British trio making a unique melodic impact on the indie folk/Americana scene.

Nina Nesbitt

Another British talent to look out for is Nina Nesbitt, the Scottish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist; she is certain to get even more talent spotters seeking to learn more about her tonight on the Sunset Stage.

As for London-born alternative R’n’B wunderkid Tokio Myers, turn up at his gig to see why he won Britain’s Got Talent and has already been name-checked by Rihanna.

And it’s not over after that: DJs Mo Laudi (above) and Single Spark (below) will play on the Midem Beach, in association with Soonvibes;

…and then it’s off to the Annex Beach, for Midem’s first official After Party, with DJs Loic Lena & Jeff LM. See you there, until 02.00!
